Izzy post 12/20 front limb amputation

imageIzzy is a wonderful 11 1/2 year old beagle I adopted 2 years ago when her family moved out of the country.  She has fit in with my other rescue beagle and a rescue malanois like they were litter mates  She is smart, sweet and has been very active.  She hiked in Colorado last summer like she was born in the mountains rather than the Gulf Coast. In late November she began to limp and on December 20 2015 she had a front left limb amputation for osteo sarcoma.  She has been doing real well in recovery— now really ready to play and is barking her head off just like she did before all her pain and trouble started in November. I was not sure what to expect and was really anxious about her  but am now also having a good recovery after help and support from the people at Tripawds!

Izze has gotten a little acupuncture  and the acupuncture vet saw her this morning and is concerned she may be developing a seroma.  Yikes! and I am leaving for vacation tonite.  But the acupuncture vet will make a house call to check her while I am gone. How amazing is that??  I need to figure out how to post her picture as she is beautiful.  Thank you all for your help.

  1. sounds like a champ… you could have whoever is watching her to do some warm and cold compresses to assist it its reabsorbtion…

  2. Wow 11.5 years young? That is PAWESOME!!! Sorry about the diagnosis but it sure sounds like things are going well. We’re so glad you joined to share Izzy’s story, as folks with older dogs are always in need of extra inspawration.

Where in Colorado are you? That vet sounds amazing, we’d love to hear more. Acupuncture is PAWESOME!!! Yay for giving Izzy such great care.

  3. By the way I saw you were in the chat (and are still logged in it appears). You did get comments on your blog post but they need approval. You will always get emails showing you that 1st time commenters need approval so be sure to keep an eye out for them. I will approve the 1 that is currently waiting.

Oh also, here’s a link that explains how to post photos in blogs:

    1. Thanks. I just wasn’t sure my blog actually posted. Then I added a photo. Or I think I did! We live in G
Houston but took the dogs to Telluride for 3 weeks last summer. They so loved it. Al of them hiked. Hope to get Izzy back for more this summer.

  4. Just seeing this post and LOVELY picture of Izzy! Such a sweeeet face!

So glad to hear how well she’s doing! It’s awe inspiring how our tripawds just get on with living life to the fullest savoring the moment!

I actually thought I had responded to your blog before, but guess not!

I just remember how impressed I was with your Acupuncturist!

You are doing a great job of taking care of sweet Izzy. Good job!

    Hugs to all!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
    Anway, update when you can.

    1. Thanks. She is doing quite well. For an older girl there is a bit more work involved in strengthening and learning the new moves..she has always been a runner and is really ready to get it all back. We are on a little vacation but a great dogsitter is with her and the Accupuncture dr made a house call! I really am missing her and my other dogs but getting good daily reports. When I get back I will do an update on her and we hope to get a good rehab plan in place….
